For organisations wanting a simple volunteer agreement. This document sets out the hopes and expectations of the individual and the organisation, without placing contractual obligations on either party. Is this right for me?

This document is right for your organisation if:

  • You engage, or intend to engage, individuals in your organisation who will not receive any payment apart from expenses and who will be carrying out services for your organisation on a voluntary basis.

This document is not right for your organisation if:

  • You will be paying the individuals, apart from their expenses;
  • The individuals will have any obligation to provide services to your organisation.

Please note: This document is in the form of a letter that should be sent to the volunteer in question. As such, make sure that when you print it you include the date of the day the letter will be sent (you will be asked this), and that you print the letter on your organisation's headed paper. Please also note if your organisation has an expenses policy this should be attached to the letter when it is sent.

What do I need before I start?

• A copy of the volunteer role description if you have one or details of the role;
• A copy of your organisation’s expenses policy. You can purchase our expenses policy separately if you wish.

Remember: If you don’t have everything you need you can make a start, save the information and return to complete the form another time.


Q: What is the process?
A: Once you have logged in and paid for the form you will be asked a series of questions. These questions help us to create exactly the right document for you. There is lots of information to help you. Once you have finished the document it will be emailed to you with more instructions about what to do next.

Q: What if I don’t have time to complete the form?
A: If you don’t have all the information you need or if you get interrupted you can save the information you have inputted and return to the document later.
